Once we have agreed therapy goals, I will work with your child on a 1-to-1 basis either at their school or an alternative agreed venue.
When planning and providing therapy sessions, I either follow my own DME-C therapy approach for 2e/DME children, or I draw from a combination of therapy approaches and techniques as this eclectic approach allows me to put your child first and make sessions fun and engaging. Whenever appropriate and possible I ask you to attend sessions, so that you can repeat some of the activities at home with your child. If this is not possible we can arrange quick catch up calls, and/or telehealth parent only sessions at specific points in the therapy program.
Treatment session time, frequency, and duration:
Treatment is provided during school term time, and the length and frequency of treatment sessions will vary depending on your child’s assessed needs and your unique circumstances.
Generally, I see children with 2e/DME for a double session on a fortnightly basis, and provide other sessions as single sessions on a weekly basis.
A single treatment session is calculated at 70 minutes in total, with 50 minutes being used for face to face therapy provision, and 20 minutes for session related non face to face work such as session preparation, mandatory session note taking, resource management, quick emails, etc.
A double session is calculated at a total of 120 minutes, with 100 minutes being used for face to face therapy provision, and 20 minutes for session related non face to face work as described above.
Although I can give a broad indication of how many sessions I think your child will need at the start of therapy, your child’s progress will depend on the underlying causes for their difficulties and whether they do the additional exercises that I provide. I informally track your child’s progress against the therapy goals within each session and may suggest that they graduate from therapy if I determine they have reached their goals. Regardless, I also carry out a review session after 10 to 12 sessions to determine whether there is a need for further therapy, and will discuss my findings with you.
Equipment:
I will provide all the required equipment for effective therapy sessions, but will work closely with you to identify any equipment and tools that I feel your child will need beyond the therapy space and which you can purchase from providers of your choosing. Also, in some instances, I may agree with you to create a bespoke resource for your child and the time taken for this will be charged additionally at my hourly rate.
